Now there is great gain in(N) godliness(O) with contentment, 7for(P) we brought nothing into the world, and[c] we cannot take anything out of the world. 8But(Q) if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content. 9But(R) those who desire to be rich fall into temptation,(S) into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that(T) plunge people into ruin and destruction. 10For the love of money is a root of(U) all kinds of evils. (1 Timothy 6:6-10 - ESV)
I think that many of us do not get contentment with Godliness. We try to find contentment in our stuff, our happiness, and our relationships. We cannot take anything out of the world when it is our time to go. We worship false idols instead of God. We strive, and seek after earthly things. Money in of itself is not evil, and the love of money is evil. The other thing we do is forsake the sovereignty of God. Government is not the almighty saviour.
Many people have speculated, commented and debated over the present mess on Wall Street, yet greed has driven the banking industry to loan people money who shouldn’t have loans, and make risky investments on those loans. Now we have to pay the piper what is do. I know many Americans do not want the Federal Government to bail out Wall Street, but what can we do at this point. I just hope that the law makers on Washington actually come up with rules and regulations that will help govern Wall Street where this won’t happen again. Now, I know that there are those who hold to ideals that the market will govern itself, but in my opinion they always leave out the fact the some of us are greedy and love money to the point where it can become evil.
